Cookies and browser storage
Last updated: 2 October 2026
This page explains what dunetribe4x4.com stores in your browser and which outside services it contacts. The site is run by Dune Tribe Rent a Car LLC (Commercial Registration No. 1679332), Al Khawd, Al Seeb, Muscat Governorate, Sultanate of Oman. The company is responsible for this site.
No cookies, no tracking
A cookie is a small file that a website saves in your browser. Our website sets no cookies, and our hosting service sets none either. We use no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no social media plugins and no profiling.
Fonts, scripts and libraries are served from dunetribe4x4.com itself. While you browse, your browser connects only to our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services (AWS). We have switched off the access logs for page visits. Your browser contacts other companies only if you open the map (see The map) or tap a WhatsApp or Instagram link (see WhatsApp and Instagram links).
What we store in your browser
Your browser has a storage area called "local storage". Our site uses it to remember three settings. Each item is saved only when you change that setting yourself in the menu.
| Name | What it stores | When it is saved |
|---|---|---|
| dt-lang | The language you picked, so that the site opens in this language when you come back | When you pick a language in the menu |
| dt-theme | Your appearance choice: Auto, Day or Night | When you pick an appearance in the menu |
| dt-transparency | Whether "Reduce transparency" is on or off | When you turn this switch on or off in the menu |
All three items stay in your browser until you clear the site data. Some browsers also delete them on their own after some time without visits.
These items contain no name, email address or phone number. Unlike cookies, they are not sent to our server when you open a page. If you send a booking request, the form includes the language of the page you used (see our Privacy Policy).
If you have not picked a language, the site may open in your browser's language. This check happens in your browser, and nothing is stored.
Why there is no consent banner
EU rules on storing or reading information on a device (the ePrivacy rules) do not require consent when this is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. Our site stores or reads information on your device only in these cases:
- The three settings above. They are saved only when you choose a setting, and used only to remember your choice. They are never used to identify you or to track you.
- Your browser's language setting. It is checked only to open the site in your language.
- The map and your device's location. They are used only when you open the map or tap "Use my location".
For this reason the site shows no consent banner.
The map
The booking form has a map where you can mark your pick-up or return point in Muscat. The map loads only when you open it. Then:
- Map images (tiles) are loaded from OpenStreetMap tile servers.
- Your searches are sent to Nominatim. The coordinates of the point you mark may also be sent to Nominatim to find its address.
Both services are run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) in the United Kingdom. They receive your IP address and your search text or the coordinates of the point. The map tiles we load set no cookies. We chose these services, so we are responsible for sending your request to them. What the OSMF does with the data after that is explained in its privacy policy. The EU has recognised that the United Kingdom protects personal data adequately (an EU adequacy decision).
Use my location. Your device's location is used only if you tap "Use my location" and then allow it in your browser. The map then shows your position, and its coordinates may be sent to Nominatim to find the address. Your browser may remember your permission. You can withdraw it at any time in your browser's site settings.
If you confirm a point on the map and send the booking request, its coordinates are included in your request to us (see our Privacy Policy).
WhatsApp and Instagram links
Our WhatsApp and Instagram links are plain links. They do not contact WhatsApp or Instagram while you browse our site. WhatsApp or Instagram opens only when you tap or click one of these links. From then on, that service handles your data under its own terms and privacy policy. If you send us a message on WhatsApp, we also receive it and handle it as explained in our Privacy Policy.
How to clear site data
To delete everything our site stored in your browser:
- Open your browser's settings.
- In the privacy section, look for "site data", "website data" or "cookies and site data".
- Find dunetribe4x4.com and delete its data.
Menu names differ between browsers. In a private or incognito window, your browser deletes these items when you close all private windows.
Your choices
There are no cookie preferences to set and no consent to give or refuse, because the site uses no cookies, analytics or advertising. You still decide what is stored and what is sent:
- Settings: Change a setting at any time in the menu. The new choice replaces the old one. To remove all three settings, clear the site data as described above. The site then goes back to its default settings.
- Map: If you do not open the map, nothing is sent to OpenStreetMap. You can type your hotel or address instead.
- Location: Your device's location is used only after you allow it. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your browser's site settings.
Changes to this page
If our site starts to store other items in your browser, or to contact other outside services, we will update this page and the date at the top.
